Cleaning your pet’s teeth is important. This pet has a painful condition called chronic ulcerative periodontal stomitis (CUPS). This is an immune response to the bacteria on the teeth. Wherever the gums touch a tooth that has a build up of bacteria, they react and ulceration is formed. This is a very painful condition that is completely avoidable. If the bacteria is controlled the immune response reduces and the tissue can heal.
Removing the plaque bacteria can be done by brushing or the use of special pet dental products. In this case an anti bacterial spray was used. The spray has a special type of bio-available zinc and vitamin C. The zinc kills only harmful bacteria leaving the natural flora of the animals mouth intact. The spray is applied daily to stop the bacteria from growing. The vitamin C stimulates collagen and helps the painful ulceration heal.
